How Jessica Lentz Built a $15 Million Business Working 5 Hours a Week & The Power of Boundaries
Have you ever felt like in order to succeed in this business, there is only one model we can follow and a cookie-cutter approach to everything? It’s a common misconception, but it’s not the truth.
There are many types of successful real estate business models, and we can choose what our business will look like.
In order for this job to truly be a vehicle for freedom, we actually have to run it in a way that’s truly authentic to us. That means working with who we want to work with, building a business around what we love, and boundaries to protect what we value most.
If we put numbers over everything, we end up with a business that feels like a trap, pain-in-the-ass co-workers and clients and not being able to be there for our families. We have the ability to put the boundaries in place that allow us to be all we want to be and thrive in all areas of our lives, not just business.
This is the path that Jessica Lentz has followed. She has set boundaries in her business so that she can be the wife and mom she wants to be. Her real estate volume is $15 million a year, and she only works 5 hours a day. She shares how she has been able to be successful in real estate without getting away from what matters to her.

Things We Learned from Jessica Lentz
I have boundaries and I’m not willing to cross them for business
The key to having boundaries in business while still having great client relationships is setting expectations early on. Jessica has an expectation sheet that she gives to clients at the beginning. She goes over each expectation with them, and if the client doesn’t like any of the terms, that means they are not a good fit and she would rather refer them to another agent than try to force it.
It doesn’t have to be one or the other. It just comes down to building a life with boundaries and being able to include all the pieces of your life in one place.
Having it all as a woman in this business is often framed as a challenge at best, and an impossibility at worst. If we intentionally design the life we want, considering carefully how each piece of our life fits in, we can create something that allows us to have it all in a healthy and fulfilling way.
My boundaries are my non-negotiables
Boundaries are how we can protect what matters to us, and even if we love our businesses and clients, we still need them. Think about the things that when you look back later you’ll realize you’ll never be able to get back. Those are the things that matter, and it is possible to build our businesses around that so we can have what we value most.
