Brad Inman On Being the Voice Of Real Estate & Providing Clarity in Uncertain Times

Podcast

Interview with Brad Inman by Kevin Kauffman

Intro

The most consistent thing about the real estate industry today is that we have to navigate a lot of uncertainty and change, and that’s hard for a lot of real estate agents. This is especially true for the everyday agent who is in the trenches of trying to build and run a business. My guest, Brad Inman is someone who has made it his life’s work to inform these agents and help them navigate the waters of real estate. Inman News is a place many of us turn for valuable insights and information, and Brad’s passion for engaging with people is at the basis of the success of the platform.

How do we stop ourselves from operating from a place of fear? How do we help our clients navigate these changing times? How can we build an industry that doesn’t squeeze out the agents who are the beating heart of what we do? On this episode, Brad Inman shares on his journey, what he cares about and how we can go towards the new phases in our industry with confidence.

Quotes

The industry often operates from a place of fear and we have to stop doing that to ourselves.

– Brad Inman

We don’t write to appease people at the top, we write to inform and help everyday Realtors.

We have an overarching vision that technology is going to create a better consumer experience.

Key Points

We need to protect buyer agents

The industry is taking actions that erode the role of the buyer’s agent especially by promoting inside sales. This is also leading to an erosion of the cooperation between buyers and sellers. We can change this by allowing more innovation and giving real entrepreneurs what they need to keep going.

Technology is a double-edged sword

As much as technology has been incredible for our industry, it has definitely kidnapped our privacy and even our lives. We have to take back our power as citizens by placing personal controls on the stranglehold technology has on us.

The opiate crisis doesn’t just affect lives and families, it affects what we do

The opiate crisis is devastating communities and families, and it has impacted us all directly or indirectly. It’s also a crisis for our industry because it also impacts property values and the general health of our communities.

Summary

On this episode we discussed

  • The importance of changing the industry to create a better consumer experience.
  • What Brad wishes all Realtors were aware of, and how to control the erosion of buyer/seller relationships.
  • Why Brad operates without calendars and some of the downsides of technology.
  • Why he advocates for the people that don’t have a voice.
  • The opiate crisis and how it’s devastating communities and families.
  • How to make sense of all the uncertainty in the industry now.

Closing Paragraph

In order to navigate these uncertain times in our industry, we need to understand the need for emotional, market and technology intelligence. The emotional intelligence part is key because it helps us serve our people better, and it helps us build relationships because these relationships will demystify these uncertain times. At the end of the day,  people are looking for collaboration, counsel, and advice. If we provide that, we’ll make it through any shift.
