Justen Martin on His Journey & Committing to His Personal & Business Progression

We’ve had the opportunity to interview and talk to some of the most successful business owners, and one thing we’ve learned is that what an operation looks like from the outside is just the tip of the iceberg.

Business success is a combination of monumental decisions, boring, repetitive but important actions done consistently, cornerstones of business practice, and huge accountability. And from time to time, there’s one more ingredient in the recipe, the willingness to take risks and make pivotal decisions that change our trajectory.

In order to be willing and able to do all of this, there’s an emotional and mental state we need to cultivate. Justen Martin has done this throughout his career, and his “long-term infinite mindset of getting better in business” shows in what he’s achieved.

Justen shares the thought process behind his most pivotal decisions, why he’s so focused on what matters to him, and how we can build a business that can make it through any shift or crisis – even Covid-19.

Every single person who finds success needs to get something done first in the morning before they ever open their computer. -Justen Martin

“Anyone who has a good business usually has a hard time making it a great business because the success traps are so strong.

Success traps are the hardest to get out of, even harder than the trap of failure. When things are good or are just above good enough this is when people take their foot off the gas.

“When you peel the onion of successful businesses, you’ll find boring, repetitive but important practices and routines.”

The most successful people are willing to deal in the mundane long enough to get results. Boring tasks done every day over time get you the results and outcomes. If you do them consistently, and effectively over time, you build a big business. If you create momentum, it will compound.

“If you’re going to kick ass, you also have to be willing to take an ass-whooping.”

Accountability is incredibly important. If we want to kick ass and get things done we should also be willing to get our asses kicked when we don’t uphold our commitment.

If something can’t be tracked, it’s just a thought, not a stat or a fact.
